If the cake is a central part…then by all means, budget and spend the money to get what you want. For those of you who look at the cake as desert or not that important in the overall wedding then these tips are for you:
Think about sheet cakes from a retailer like Walmart. While they may not be the fanciest looking, they often taste pretty good and are far less expensive than traditional bakers. Want something a little fancier…don’t turn your nose up at Walmart or other large retailer wedding cakes. Often then are 20-30% less, look nice and taste great.
Cupcakes….everyone thinks cupcakes save money…that is true as long as you are not looking at the jumbo, fancy cupcakes…they may actually cost more per guest than regular cake. For ultra-budget, look at having a family member make cupcakes from a mix and then decorate for fun.
Need a bride and groom cake to cut…a small round cake from a big retailer might only cost $20 and fit the bill nicely.
A final thought, there are some companies that rent fake cakes. These can often have a cut away in back with real cake for the bride and groom. Otherwise they are a great decoration and you serve slices of less expensive cake to the guests.
