Vows can (and should be) completely different for each half of the couple. Vows can be long, short, funny, serious or anything in between. Bottom line is that they should be your heart-felt words to your partner.
Vows should also be read, not memorized….many people are afraid of forgetting their lines so go ahead and read them off a piece of paper. The audience wants you to get through them without hassle.
I’m not a big fan of “repeat after me” vows because they tend to sound robotic. Also, typically you hear about every 3rd word the officiant says because you are focusing on the love of your life…that can lead you to fill in the blanks with some interesting words!
My parting advice…write your own vows…it will mean more to you, be more special, and help create the memories you are looking for
